World Record

I'm all for breaking a world record and today in Sydney's CBD Sally Hansen and Priceline teamed together to break the number of manicures completed in a certain amount of hours.  One hundred manicurists were seated to groom and polish thousands of nails in record speed.  The world record is currently held by the London College of Beauty Therapy last year when they completed 1,897 mini-manicures in eight hours.
Women, Men and Children were all invited to come and get their nails preened.  Women receiving a file, base coat, two coats of varnish (with a choice of six colours) and then a top coat.  Men would receive a file and buff to shine.
Judges walked up and down ushering the public to their seats and making sure everything was running to a tight schedule with each mini-mani taking approximately 12 minutes each.  Once your nails are done and you make your way out, your nails then get checked by adductors to make sure they reach the record breaking standard.
There was a great atmosphere among everyone and all of the manicurists were super friendly.  I'll be keen to see if they beat the record.

Not the best mani ever, but not bad for a quick freebie!

IMATS

This week, by chance, I found online that IMATS (International Make-Up Artist Trade Show) was in town for the weekend so I jumped at the chance to get myself a ticket and take myself along.  They hold the event in London, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver.  I thought I got there early enough at 10.30am but once I got inside there were gaggles of girls everywhere trying to get their hands on top products at a cheaper price.  Exhibitors such as MAC, Illamasqua, Inglot and Napoleon Perdis were there showing their ranges, even products that hadn't hit the shops yet.

I went there with one item in mind.  The Make-Up Forever HD Foundation.  I have heard so much hype about this product that when I was they had a stall there I had to get my hands on it.  To my disappointment the crowd around the stall was insane, with girls pushing and shoving trying to make purchases.  I went for a mingle around thinking if I go back in about ten minutes the crowd would have subsided, but I couldn't have been more wrong.
In the end I wasn't able to get the foundation but at least I now know what colour I am so I can make the purchase online.  As well as the stalls there were also make-up artists and students taking part in shows, talking about their work.
All in all it was a great event and I know that if I do go again next year to arrive earlier than mid morning in order to get the pieces I desire.  I purchased in the end a cute Mini Kabuki brush (which is so so soft), Smashbox Tinted Moisturiser, Brush cleaner and some disposable mascara wands.

Into the Galaxy

I have been a self confessed Blackberry girl for years and when my contract finally ended I was up for a free upgrade.  I was wanting the new Blackberry Bold 9900 but it's not out till Christmas.  I know you might think that's not long away but I get impatient and my old phone was super old even the Vodafone guy laughed at me when I showed it to him.  Weep!
So I went away to have a think.  I do love the iPhone 4 but everyone has one and I like to have something   a little different to everyone else.  After much um-ing and ar-ing I decided to go for the Samsung Galaxy SII.
Now this is an Android phone (the name just makes me nervous saying it) and I always thought they sounded lame and were nothing compared to my best friend the Blackberry, but I was so wrong.  The phone is amazing.  Firstly its so slim it's ridiculous.  It can fit nicely into your tinniest little clutch bag for an evening out which means more room for your fave lippy and blusher.  The layout if great with there being up to seven different home screen where you can put your go to apps, calendar and e-mails.  Then once you click on the applications you can go though seven plus screens again of all the apps you have downloaded.  All downloading is quick and easy and there are heaps more choices on the app market to choose from than on iTunes.
The camera is an 8.0 mega pixels and the photo quality is crazy (well anything is going to be better than my old Blackberry!)
So if you are thinking of what phone to choose I'd say, take a risk, don't stay safe with the iPhone or Blackberry and go for this little bad boy.  You'd be surprised.

The Wearer's Right

On the weekend a friend invited me to a fashion event The Wearer's Right.  It's an event spread over three days where fashion/jewellery companies show their new season stock (while you indulge is several glasses of champagne) before they hit the shops.  Most of the brands are based in the fashion hub of Melbourne and the rest are dotted around Sydney, NZ and Europe.
As you mooch around the stalls chatting to the designers and representatives, tall, leggy girls stroll around  eyeing up the clothes as the guys play table tennis and drink beer.  We were there as Media & Press.  My friend is a costume stylist for the movie industry so she was keen to see things were coming to the table.
We met heaps of awesome people and was great seeing how their companies work behind the scenes, not to mention checking out some fantastic things that I wanted to get my hands on.....and might just do so! There was also an insane variety of clothing, most of it wearable, some not but the creativity, detailing and colours that were used were to die for. I am also afraid to admit that I am an avid watch fiend and fell instantly in love with several that were out for show.
The time flew by but after plenty of schmoozing, champagne and freebies it was time to head to the after party to do more of the same.....

Australia's Next Top Model 2011

Yes ladies it is that time of year again where an hour of my week gets devoted to the one and only program I watch, Australia's Next Top Model.
Numerous people don't like this program wether it be in the US, UK or here in Australia.  For me I just love watching the girls progress (or in some cases not) week by week, seeing them learn how to try different looks, work with their bodies and not to mention envy the amazing photographers that shoot them, clothes they get to wear and the sneaky freebies that get thrown in!

Here are a run down of a few of the girls who are still in the running to be Australia's Next Top Model (I hope you like that little bit added in there!)

Firstly is Montana.  She seventeen years old and is one of the quiet ones out of the girls.  She is defiantly the dark horse of the group.
I didn't really notice her at first but now, WOW she is amazing and just screams 'model'.  Even if she doesn't win the show (which I think she should) she will definitely go far.  One photographer saying that she should already be in New York.

Modelling in a Coffin!

My absolute favourite.

Commercial shoot

Jess would have to be another of my faves.  She's a blonde tomboy from QLD with an awesome dress sense and quirky personality.  She didn't start off to well while during the early stages of the show she was rocking a black eye.  But she was able to prove them wrong and has taken some fantastic photos showing just how versatile she is in every shot.

Now the next girl leaves little to the imagination.  When I saw her in the line up of the top fifty girls, I thought that they must be joking (a little harsh I know) but boy have I been proven wrong.  Izzy has (or had) the brightest pink and blue hair I have ever seen.  She has an instantly likeable personality and rarely lets anything phase her....especially the coffin photo shoot claiming her boyfriend has three at home!
Most of her photos have been fantastic but like one of the photographers said not many people will want to cast a pink haired model.  There is only a certain market for that kind of look.
During the 'makeover' episode they cut her hair and were attempting to bleach her hair white, but due to the intensity of the pink they had to tone it down to a red.

Neo is this confident, takes not bullsh*it kinda girl with masses of chestnut hair.  Until the judges asked her to remove it.  Stunned looks appeared and she revealed she had been wearing a wig.  Now to be honest I think she looks stunning without the big hair.  Her face is so striking.
Her attitude tested fellow contestants and also the judges.  In shoots she wasn't always able to give a range of faces/looks, maybe a bit of a one trip pony?
This still doesn't mean that I don't think she is gorgeous and has an amazing figure.

My final girl (otherwise this will be pages long) is Yolanda.  She is just so naturally pretty with a bit of a Yasmin La Bon look to her.  Fantastic bone structure, pretty with a wonderful personality.
Yolanda has been pretty strong throughout the show not really showing any weakness along the way.  Some might think that she has a curvaceous figure for Top Model and might get stuck in just a few areas of modelling.  But I think her pictures show just how versatile she can be.

So as of this week there are 10 girls left.  I'm not entirely sure how many weeks there are left of the program but I will defiantly be tuning in every Monday.  Let's just hope there isn't a repeat of the Final last year and the best model wins....

Fingers crossed!

Fiji time

Ok so I'm getting a little carried away....the boy and I have booked a seven night break in Fiji, however this little holiday is six weeks away roughly so I am wishing the weeks away (which is bad I know but this is our first holiday together in ages)

We're going to be staying in a resort south/west of the main island which is right next to the beach.  Since moving to Australia I am envious of everyone back in the UK booking cheap holidays to Europe and having long weekends in the South of France or Greece etc.  I do slightly regret not taking Europe to my full advantage while I lived there.  But still I've done more than your average 24 year old and I have been living in Australia for the past three and a half years, which get's heaps better summers than the UK will ever have.
Not to mention to tropical Islands dotted to the East of Australia waiting for me to visit! So I guess I have one up on all of you back home....cheeky I know!

Anyway.  Fiji. Yes.  I am more than excited to say the least.  Here are some internet images of where we will be staying.....The count down is on!

September wish list

Since joining the part-time world and having all this extra time on my hands (Ok I say extra time but I am actually doing my assignments on these days off) but I can't help but get my daily blog/vlog fix and check out what everyone is or has purchased.
Now most of the blogs and Youtubers that I do read/watch are in the UK which puts me in a disadvantage now living in Sydney!  I love being kept up to date with all the new make-up products and clothing that are currently in the shops at home....but this then leaves me wanting to spend and more than often placing a few guilty and sneaky online purchases for them to be shipped all the way down under!
Do I regret any of these purchases......never!

So this week when I finally get paid there are few things that I am itching to buy.

Number one would have to be Guerlain de Peau Invisible Skin Fusion Foundation.  I'm not the best when it comes to foundations and have hundreds that just sit collecting dust on my counter.  I have researched and researched about the best foundations and it is between Guerlain de Peau and Chanel's Vitalumiere Aqua.
So come pay day we shall see which one I go for.

Next on the list of things to buy would have to be the Urbanears headphones.  They look amazing.  I know several people who have them already and the sound quality is so crisp and out of this world.  The website has a wide range of colours and styles that you can choose from going for the more simple headphones that you put into your ear or the retro cushioned headphones.

After a good look on the website I fell in love with one style Plattan and as for the colour...it would either be Lavender or Pool.

These would have to be the two main things for me to splurge on first.  Need to start trying to save some cash (though it never happens) as I have a holiday to Fiji in about six weeks. Super excited!

Anyway if I think of anything else or no doubt see anything else that catches my eyes I will be sure to blog about it!
